Internship Information
Next Step Counseling, LLC (NSC) offers structured internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students seeking to integrate classroom learning with real-world experience in a professional counseling and behavioral health setting. The program provides a comprehensive orientation to the organization’s policies, structure, and clinical operations. Interns will gain meaningful experience by applying theoretical concepts within a supervised, hands-on environment that promotes professional growth and client-centered care.
Under the supervision of licensed professionals, interns may engage directly with clients, assist with assessments, participate in case consultations, and support administrative or community outreach activities that align with NSC’s mission of “Helping you get to your next step.”
Intern Requirements
All interns are required to complete the following prior to beginning their placement:
• Internship Application
• Background Check
• Drug Screen
• Confidentiality Statement
• Orientation
Deadlines for Internship Applications
• Fall Internship: July 1st
• Spring Internship: December 1st
• Summer Internship: April 1st

Internship Purposes
• Help students apply theory to effective counseling and professional practice
• Broaden the student’s range of skills by delivering services to individuals, families, and communities
• Prepare students to serve diverse client populations with cultural humility and competence
• Familiarize students with workplace responsibilities and ethical standards in behavioral health
Internship Academic Requirements
• Be in good academic standing with their university or college
• Be enrolled in a practicum, internship, or work experience course approved by their academic program
• Be willing to commit at least one academic semester (or term) to the internship experience
